YWCA of Glendale, California
YWCA of Glendale Mission: Since 1926 the YWCA of Glendale has been serving the community with programs and services to uplift women and girls. Currently, we operate:
1. Our Focus on Female Veterans Initiative, has produced 2 transformation leadership conferences for female veterans, as well as 3 female veteran empowerment conferences, with more planned for 2015. We are partnering with Verdugo Jobs Center on a CWIB grant for unemployed / underemployed female veterans, and are pleased to be collaborating with Wellness Works on a project funded by Dignity Health to support healing from military trauma. We continue to advocate on a statewide and national level on issues affecting our veterans.
2. A comprehensive Domestic Violence Assistance Program, which includes: a 24-hour hotline (888-999-7511), emergency shelter, counseling, educational workshops, legal assistance and case management for victims of domestic violence and their children. All services are free and available in English, Spanish and Armenian.
3. Summer day camp – Camp Y. Camp Y focuses on a balance of skills for both the body and mind in order to face two of the most important issues currently affecting our children: education and physical fitness. We are offering a multi-faceted program that not only offers camp basics, but more importantly provides skills and lessons that children can take with them into the school
year. We have developed a program that will grow with the child, progressing as the child learns from week-to-week (in multiple sessions). CAMP Y is open to all children – Grades K through 6th.
