In order to make our Advisory Committee more efficient, productive and connected, we are joining the Veterans Coalition of Glendale. Our meetings will take place in conjunction with the Coalition every third Thursday of the month at Glendale City Hall.
On October 15th during our next coalition meeting, we will have Nathan Graeser, Community Liaison for USC’s Center for Innovation and Research for Veterans and Military families and who runs the monthly L.A. Veterans Collaborative, to share his work and vision regarding community. He will also share his desire to learn more about our coalition to incorporate into USC CIR’s research.
We will also have updates on Veterans Village and about planned events for November 11, 2015 – Veterans Day.

Monday, September 21, 2015 9:00am – 3:00pm Bob Hope Partiotic Hall at 1816 FigJoin American Veterans for Equal Rights & The County of Los Angeles in celebrating the accomplishments of LGBT Veterans here in LA County. On Monday, Sept 21 we will be partnering with SoCalGas, Supervisor Hilda Solis, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, Assemblymember Richard Bloom, Mayor Eric Garcetti, the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs, the California Dept. of Veterans Affairs and many other local officials and service providers to honor the sacrifices and accomplishments of the brave LGBTQ/A Veterans and Service Members. This will be the first ever LGBT Veteran Event at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall.
Operation: Do Ask, Do Tell serves as an annual gathering of the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs (Benefits, Cemetery, and Healthcare), California Dept. of Veterans Affairs, County of Los Angeles, American Veterans for Equal Rights (only Federally recognized National LGBT Veteran Service Organization), Local Service Providers & Employers to discuss the needs and services provided to LGBT Veterans in and around Los Angeles County. The event is designed to honor the memory of the old DADT law & those negatively affected during its tenure, while bringing the much needed resources to one location, for them to take advantage of in a safe and accepting environment.

A Veterans Career Summit will be held on July 14, 2015 to celebrate the one year anniversary of the launch of “10,000 Strong.” The summit will aim to connect 1,000 veterans with career and business resources. This one day event will help job seekers and veteran entrepreneurs network with career and business experts, connect job seekers with on-site hiring managers, and provide valuable tools for veteran entrepreneurs to access capital, develop business proposals, and compete for government contracts. Each veteran standing post will be wearing a dog tag given to them by staff. This ceremony will be an on-going event, 24/7, therefore; by the end of the event there will be about 130 dog tags that represent all the men and women who committed suicide during that period. All dog tags will be placed on a field memorial. There will be supporting staff the whole time, RV’s, water, food, an parking. This is a community and military event. Together we can fight against veteran suicide. The local community is welcomed to watch veterans walk post on the bridge. We ask for your support at any capacity and please SHARE this event with your loved ones, friends, and strangers!
